Moving long distance (NJ to Fla) and hiring a mover is very stressful. First time ever writing a review, but I think this company and their employees deserve one. Neta was so great with returning calls and emails with me throughout this process Movers showed up on time and packed our items like they were their own. Delivery to Fla was inside the of estimated days of arrival without any issues. I would recommend Lift and Shift to anyone who is moving.

You need a mover that shows up prepared, and still adapts when life happens. That balance is our daily work.

  • Route planning built for interstate moves, realistic delivery windows, careful communication.
  • Packing you can trust, full or partial, with custom crating for fragile or high value items.

Light opinion, perhaps obvious, the best move is rarely the “cheapest,” it is the one that prevents delays and loss.

Where we move in Connecticut and beyond

We serve the entire state, coast to hills, cities to quiet towns, and connect you to every region in the United States.

Major metros and corridors we handle often

Hartford, New Haven, Stamford, Bridgeport, Norwalk, Danbury, Waterbury, Greenwich, West Hartford, Fairfield, Milford, Middletown, New Britain, Meriden, Torrington, Bristol, Enfield, Manchester.

Key corridors include I 95, I 84, I 91, Merritt Parkway, and the coastal US 1 stretch.

If your origin or destination is off the usual path, that is fine, rural pickups and deliveries are normal for us.

Popular long distance routes from and to Connecticut

Some routes come up again and again, patterns you start to notice after a while. We plan for the quirks of each.

CT to New York and New Jersey

Common for job changes and family moves. Tight loading zones in Stamford, Greenwich, and parts of New Haven mean careful parking coordination, perhaps COIs for certain buildings. Delivery windows are set with traffic in mind, Cross Bronx can be unpredictable.

CT to Massachusetts and Rhode Island

Short interstate hops feel simple, yet winter timing on I 84 or I 90 can slow things down. We pad schedules responsibly, I prefer honesty over perfect optimism.

CT to Florida and the Southeast

Snowbird season adds demand, so early booking helps. We group compatible shipments to maintain speed and cost control while keeping each inventory separate and fully labeled.

CT to North Carolina and Georgia

Fast growing corridors, a good fit for full service packing if you want to land and get back to work quickly, or just explore a new neighborhood without cartons everywhere.

CT to Texas, Illinois, and the Midwest

Longer mileage, steady communication becomes everything. We check in proactively, not only when asked. I think that reassurance matters more than people admit.

CT to California and the West

Coast to coast means detailed crating for art, glass, and electronics, plus realistic expectations around transit. We build a route plan that favors consistency over shortcuts.

Our long distance moving process

A predictable process reduces surprises, not all of them, but most.

1. Quick quote and consultation

You share dates, addresses, access notes, and any special items. We provide a clear estimate with line items for packing, crating, stairs, long carry, and storage if needed.

2. Virtual or on site survey

Room by room inventory, photos where helpful, a short walk through of elevators, loading docks, or townhouse steps. If your building needs a COI, we prepare it early.

3. Packing plan

Full pack, partial pack, or fragile only. We bring the right cartons, wardrobe boxes, TV boxes, dish barrels, and custom crates for art and mirrors. I like to label by room and priority, open first saves your first night.

4. Protection and load day

Floor runners, door jamb guards, and moving blankets go on before the first box moves. Furniture is disassembled with hardware bagged and taped to the base pieces for quick reassembly.

5. In transit updates

Your coordinator shares schedule checkpoints. Weather and traffic happen, we communicate changes quickly and offer options, brief storage, split delivery, or date adjustments.

6. Delivery, reassembly, and debris sweep

We place furniture by room, reassemble beds, unwrap everything, and remove packing debris. A short walkthrough closes the job, small fixes are handled on the spot.

Connecticut specific moving tips, practical and a little local

Moving across state lines from Connecticut has its own rhythm. Coastal towns feel different than inland suburbs, I think you notice it on load day.

Time your dates around weather and traffic

Winter on I 84 and I 91 can slow everything, even with great planning. If you can, aim for mid morning departures, school traffic dips, crews stay efficient, and you arrive with enough daylight to settle in. Summer weekends near the shoreline get busy, weekday loading in places like Fairfield or Milford is usually calmer.

Sort parking and building rules early

Many condo and apartment buildings ask for a certificate of insurance, some require elevator reservations. Street parking in New Haven or Hartford can be tight, temporary signs or a paid spot may be needed. Share these details during your quote, it prevents last minute scrambles.

Pack for New England weather and coastal humidity

Books, photos, guitars, and certain woods appreciate stable packing. Use lined cartons, avoid overfilling, and keep climate sensitive items away from prolonged heat in storage. We crate art and glass on request, perhaps over cautious, but better than a repair.

Label like your future self will thank you

Room name, contents, and an open first note on a few boxes changes your first night. Kitchen basics, bedding, meds, kid favorites, pet items, small tool kit, plus chargers. It sounds obvious, still, people skip it when the clock is ticking.

Consider flexible delivery windows for longer routes

If your destination is far, a slightly wider window helps avoid rushed decisions, especially during storm season. We communicate checkpoints so you are not guessing, you should not have to chase updates.

FAQ

Four to six weeks is comfortable for most dates. Peak summer or end of month fills faster. Last minute happens, we try to make it work, although options narrow.

Both. Full service packing saves time, partial packing focuses on fragile or time consuming items. See our Services for a simple breakdown.

Volume, distance, access, and services. Stairs, long carries, crating, or storage add cost. For a sense check, try our Moving Cost Calculator, then we refine with a quick survey.

Yes, we issue COIs for buildings that need them and coordinate time slots where possible. We just need management contact details early.

Floor runners, door jamb guards, and padded wraps go down before loading starts. Furniture hardware is bagged and taped to base pieces for faster setup.

It happens. Your coordinator shares updates, offers options, and documents any adjustments. Communication reduces stress more than anything, in my experience.
